RATIONALE

Genre 1: Tumblr Blog/Website
In the first genre the rhetorical choices I used in order to convey my message was to use informal language due to the type of website where the information is being delivered. The Tumblr community is filled with teens and young adults that are used to speaking informally but also enjoy it because it seems friendlier to approach others with this language. The blog can be considered an anthology of rants of the books series that range from theories to analysis of the characters, plots, setting, etc. I also appeal to the opinions of Harry Potter fanatics by allowing them to reblog or message to input their own opinions or even add to the post of a theory. Most of the post are always accompanied by sources to further my point in case people are unsure if the information is correct and to increase my credibility. Along with the sources used, the strategy of logos is also used when writing the post to support my opinions or theories. I believe these choices were right for this genre because it allows for interaction within the audience being targeted. The choices of logos and ethos allows the blog to be creditable and for use of research.

Genre 2: Article
The second genre takes on a more formal language because it is supposed to be an article from the news website The Onion. While the audience is known to be older adults, I thought taking on a more formal language would aid in credibility too because it would make readers take the article serious. Like most articles on the news website, this article takes on a satirical attitude on the author of the Harry Potter series in order to seem realistic. The satirical attitude pokes fun at the accomplishments J.K. Rowling has done over the past decade with her books. The choice of using satire as the basis of tone rather than serious would make the article feel more believable to have come from The Onion. From inspiring children to read more to giving importance to the meaning of love and family, Rowling has impacted the millennium generation than what was expected. Both in order to even show these accomplishments are real, the article also gives its source of an interview with the author herself to strengthen its credibility and logos. Logos is used because it takes aspects from the research paper written in our second project to support the article’s claims..

Genre 3: Character Profile
The third genre was influenced by Rowling’s own creation, the website Pottermore, which allows fans to learn more about the book series. I followed the same aesthetic of the website when creating my character profiles in order to have a sense of familiarity. Photos of the characters are given from young hood to adulthood as their history is outlined. Fans will be able to learn more about the main characters such as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Tom Riddle. The character profiles take on a formal language because they are giving out information about the characters. The use of informal would take away from my credibility as a rhetor because the audience would not be able to use the information for research use. I also use jargon words which applies to only Harry Potter fans, while would strength my credibility on the topic at hand, it also creates a barrier with other audiences that are not as aware of the series use of vocabulary. I think the choices work for this genre because the audience targeted is specifically Harry Potter fans. I think they would enjoy the profiles and learning about the characters and their creations or even be able to use it for analysis.
